MarTEL - Maritime Tests of English Language

At the time of the project’s proposal, there was no international or European standard for Maritime English. The MarTEL partnership was created in order to respond to the need (identified by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in 2006) for a standard of Maritime English to be established. Through transfer of innovation from existing English Language standards and Maritime English model courses, the MarTEL partnership created a set of Maritime English Language tests for seafarers at all stages of their careers, from cadet to senior officer, which incorporated the IMO’s Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP).

CAPTAINS - Communication and Practical Training in Applied Nautical Studies

CAPTAINS (Communication and Practical Training in Applied Nautical Studies) is an EU Leonardo Transfer of Innovation project which aims to make a significant contribution to maritime education and training.
